Sara Brown, D.O. is Board Certified in both Family & Sports Medicine. She is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Brown received her undergraduate degree in Nutrition from the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities and moved to Chicago for medical school at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. After finishing a Family Medicine Residency at Illinois Masonic Medical Center, she completed a sports medicine fellowship at MacNeal Hospital.
Due to her training in both Family and Sports Medicine, she is equipped to provide for all of the needs of the athlete, including medical issues or illnesses. In addition, her medical school training in Osteopathy focuses on the holistic approach and enables her to offer osteopathic manipulations, using a hands-on approach to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury.
Dr. Brown has served on the medical team for the Chicago Marathon for eight years. She has worked with several college and high school athletic teams. She is prepared to accommodate any age and any type of athlete at all levels, from the recreational to the professional. In addition, she is proud that she served on the board for the Chicago Area Runners Association for six years.
Some of Dr. Brown’s professional interests include endurance athletes, injury prevention, femoroacetabular impingement, tendinopathy, sports hernias, osteopathic manipulations and decreased bone mineral density in the non-elderly patient. One thing that she particularly enjoys is shedding some light on areas of sports medicine that are not well understood.
Dr. Brown was born and raised in Minnesota and has created a home in Chicago. She was a competitive tennis player in high school and has competed in a Skee ball league. She is currently a recreational athlete who enjoys cycling, yoga, and pilates. She commutes to work on her bike whenever possible and enjoys seeing patients/fellow cyclists out on the streets of Chicago.
